Enough for me to shift my bed away from the window in Western NSW. Saw the film in a local church. Thought there was a possibility of it travelling up the Murray, through various locks, around the pump station & into the irrigation channels, ultimately into the swimming pool (empty)and then through my window.
Don't tell me you didn't cr.p your pants Mr Flynn.

The real footage that Rodney Fox filmed was very real. And the other Hollywood footage was pretty good for the time. Actually I think the digital footage of shark movies they put out today is no improvement. I taped the movie off the tv onto a VCR when I was a kid and dead set just about burnt the tape watching it over and over again

Same, I was 8 and facinated by
sharks.Watched that and turned the light
off to go to sleep and decided I had had
enough of em for a while, a long while.Very fitfull night tossing and turning.
The thought of getting in water deeper
than i can see the bottom is still not a
great thing for me, even more so now that
there may be some scores to even up now
their side. What about that ominous music
score as well, plus old quint he was a
hero till he got eaten.

Yep, must admit, made me think about fishIng more carefully, and spear fishing around Cottesloe was a scary experience!

Top clip Ben, memories :-)

Had a big white shark follow a pot up, and roll on the surface when working on a cray boat west of Port Lincoln, in about 81 i reckon, skipper came running out to grab me, Thought I was going to fall over, went a bit white myself.

Boy, does that bring back memories.

I was 18 or 19, getting ready for my 1st surfing trip to Bali.

A couple of mates had recommended seeing this “as it was a bit of a laugh”

Well 2 days before departure it was playing at Easts Leagues Club, so myself, Ian (the other mate I was going to Bali with), and a couple of others decided we would go for a laugh. We hit Billy the Pigs for a few bears & billies before walking around the corner to the club to watch the movie.

Well……….I shat myself…….& 2 days before Bali……….BIG thanks to the mates that recommended it.

AND………

A week later myself & Ian are surfing a spot (we are the only 2 out) called Shipwreck on Nusa Lembongen.
We had found a fisherman that would take us out on his motorised outrigger for 50c. He would stay within eyesight and fish while we surfed. Wave for him and he would come in and collect us.

Well this particular day, the swell was about 8’ and the biggest of the trip. It was a lazy swell, with fair spells between sets. Ian & I were sitting there having a chat when we noticed a splash to our right.

That got our attention.

The next minute only a few 100 meters away, the water erupts in a frenzy. There are fins & tails and fish going berserk.

With a set coming, paddling into the reef was dead-set out of the question.

The only option was a paddle to the fisherman, now about 150 meters away. He wouldn’t come any closer because of the swell. 1/2 way back to the boat, I look over my shoulder and there is a fin behind us.

I can’t tell you how much I’m shytting myself by now. Jaws right.

I’m on a knee board, and Ian on a normal board. He is now about 10 meters ahead of me.
Look over my shoulder again…shark still there…Shyte

Ian is now at the boat. I have 15 meters to go. I think I’m paddling now faster than Leon Spinks.
Boat is just ahead……….RAM the board into the boat (to help propel me over the side).

As it turned out, this was particularly effective, as I almost took both Ian and the Fisherman over the other side.

In hind-sight the shark was obviously just curious. But at the time…..I tell you……

That affected the rest of my surfing time (another 25 yrs). Earlies or last light, or being the only one on a break, always had me jittery.

bl..dy JAWS

Note: for the surfers – imagine this at 8’

Surfed it at 8' only about a month ago. I love the joint, thinking of going back this month.

Unrealistic.

Saw the original robot shark (or a reconstruction of it) at Universal Studios in Los Angeles putting on a show in a artificial lake. I think they used the lake previously appearing in McHale's Navy TV program.

But the story told in the movie about the USS Indianappolis on its way home after delivering the 2 atom bombs used on Jap[an was true. Attacks mainly by tiger sharks I believe.

Do you mean to tell me that was a robot?
I suppose superman isn't real either?

I remember doing a decompression stop after a dive once and the skipper had hung a waterproof copy of Jaws at the 10’ line for us to read.
bastard
