Sailing in the Southern Ocean

Hi all, given the costs involved in rescuing French (sorry Pecheur!) and Pommie sailers, and the regularity with which they seem to find themselves in trouble negotiating their way through the Southern Ocean, should they be banned from sailing in that part of the world? :fishing: :jester: :sailing:

How many are sailing it without problems? A couple get into trouble and you hear all about it. I guess thats a downside of claiming so much water in our economic zone.

How about just charging them for their rescue? Can't go to a hospital in the USA without a credit card. Besides, if they can afford a yacht to sail around the world i'm sure they're not broke.

Thats unrealistic. The wind is free and so should be everything else....

Just yachts.
Have been a lot of yachts from Australia with problems in world waters over the years.
One Darwin sailor towed in this week
Anyone can buy a yacht and sail with little time spent on the water.
But the oceans can change in the blink of a eye also and catch the most experienced yachtsman out.

Maybe we should add dutch workers in the harbour as well
Nah. youcant do that. its a shame that people get smashed when in the sthn ocean but its a wild place.
Funny how we can put the effort into rescuing lost sailors but cant help out our own when in trouble.
You cant charge people for rescue. if you do, then people would be reluctant to set off the epirb and may die as a result

No sailing without insurance to cover any rescue. Can't afford insurance don't go.

Ha Ha! Unreal, do a google on the Maoris trying to claim for cash from the wind farms, they own the wind you know.

Back on topic, they should be hit up for the cost of the rescue, the bulk of them are cashed up clueless twats.
