Forum Disclosure - Have Your SAY

Do you think that it should be compulsory to disclose your real identity on the Forum...

I am thinking that maybe Matt Should make it a part of the stipulation of being a member of this great Forum, after all people post pictures act showing their exploits, compare boats and stories what difference would it make to the real core of the people who contribute to the forum in a positive way.
the little Spat between the members "back-cast" & "X-ray" is a prime example,, i think most people on here would know who back-cast is but other guys like X-ray are a bit of an enigma, and they are able to post and are not held accountable for anything they post really, i am of the opinion that this is wrong i would be interested to know everyone else's views on this i think it is a matter that Matt might have to look at, please participate in the poll and let Matt know how the majority of the members feel so he can make the changes i think need to be made and get rid of the pretenders once and for all.

In my opinion, this pole should have an "I Dont Care" option

Nice rig by the way

well if you don't care then its yes... because it real won't make a difference.. anonymity is only important to people trying to hide behind it.

Doesn't Matt have the names stored at the sign up?? There was another recent post that was similar to this in regards to moderation. The reason I disagree with disclosure of names is that by posting planned trips etc. there is an element of 'anybodies' that could/would be aware of your movements. You would be basically be advertising when you will not be home.
I was transfixed by the aforementioned stoush. It's pretty obvious that there is an issue between the two that is yet to be resolved & probably wont be on a public forum. This seemed a little more serious than any other verbal jousting I've witnessed on the forum, though I didn't need to look too far to see where it's 'roots' lay. In all that I've read on the forum, it was a rarity.......these are the reasons for my vote against.

This is the only forum I don't use my full name, not sure why I ommitted the surname initially. never had an issue with the full disclosure thing, no one has come looking for me, no one trying to sell me sh1t I don't need. Happy to stake my reputation on what I say in print.

I dont see how its either if you dont care. I think SMED nailed it actually. Plus it doesnt matter what we think. Its up to the owners and managers of the site. If you dont like their rules then people will have to leave... Simple

I like not knowing who the person is on the forum, makes it easier to chat
If I knew who they were I probably wouldn't give some of them the time of day
Sure it's easy to bad mouth people when you don't have fears of retribution because of anonymity ,seeing this just makes me steer clear of the perpetrator of such cr.p wich is probably better than going around to settle the score and getting locked up for it
As for Backcast,he's a big boy I'm sure he can look after himself and knows how to deal with most situations
All comes to he who waits

Here's my rig
My friends call me C--t LOL

There are a lot of reasons to not post your personal details on a public forum.
I never have and never will post my name or other details on any publically available site.

As has been said before, the administrators of the site have all of our details if needed for legal reasons

I'm not saying to make all those details public but at least they should be available to the police if they need them...
what you display publicly is entirely up to you as a participant in the forum...
maybe i should have explained that a bit better..??
