OK crew, for everyone who checked out the hull the night of the Forum Xmas party - it's in!!

Matt and I scuttled the boat today at 1300. Matt has the best shots so I'll let him post them. Everything went smoothly with absolutly perfect weather conditions all day. After all our efforts to make it float it still took 1hour 30m to sink!!!

Special thanks to 2Rods for his concreteing skills, Spanner from Shorelands, the Darwin Ski Club and Damian from Odyssey Parasailing for the towing operations.

Here's a pic to get your jewfish rods rattling. GPS mark will be released soon etc etc.

I was expecting maybe a rat or two to make a last minute jump for safety as it went down, to our surprise a snake had made the hull it's home!!!

bottom of the sea is the best place for it don't forget to send me the GPS marks for it....

Will be a report in Monday's paper, then I will put some stuff on the forum.

GPS will be released in two months when the hull has settled.

I will do up a video shortly for the Forum VIP section.

As Beast said, many thanks to Shorelands and Odyssey Adventures Parasailing who provided valuable help, and also to 2rods who helped get the hull ready.

Biggest praise is for Beast who got the whole project going and did most of the work - it's no easy task putting an old hull in the water.

It was abandoned at the skiclub a long time ago, as soon as I saw it I thought, "I'm going to sink that!!"

Lee point fads are already crowded and some are breaking up or sinking into the mud. We need to keep maintaining and building up more structure. There's many harbour wrecks being claimed by moving sand dunes, The Mandorah Queen, the barge next to the sand bar(Fannie Bay), The Demon etc etc

I gained permission through the president of the club from the original owner. Besides being an eye sore it was quite obvious it would never be used again.

It took over 5 days of preperation - removing all the wooden fit out inside, removed railings, repaired gaping holes near the keel, sika flex and liquid foamed all the other holes, removed a few dead rats. Installed 4 plugs for scuttling. We were lucky that the engine/bilge etc had already been removed and was free from oils etc.

It still took on water on the way out from unexpected places. I used the pump twice but I was being over cautious. I was surprised it towed straight as an arrow, that was real bonus.

So, we'll be catching Jewies of that very soon!

It's named after my older brother Mick who died from lung cancer in 2001. We used to fish, scuba dive and go boating in the harbour alot.

We'll add to that hull with more gear we are going to sink in 2007.

The thumbs up means "were professionals, she'll float even though it's 8am after a nightshift in 90% humidity, having a rum and dry can while we did the first stage of the repair job."

I think the snake became mackerel poo - no one was too keen to let it on board. Funny that we did not know it was in the hull.

well done lads, looks like there was a fair bit of effort required to get the job done.

Good job, curious about having to remove all the wood (fittings etc) is that because of a parasite or something? The govt burn all the illegal fishing boats because of a wood borer (forget the name) true? any way should a worthy memorial to your brother in the fishfinder (immortalised)
