XXXX Gold Billfish Classic 2017 is on this weekend. Sailfish seemed to have thinned out at Dundee, might be a few at the Stena Clyde and wide of around Bathurst Island. Online banter on FB etc has been a bit quiet, people have gone to strategic mode ...
Or you could fish the DTBC Bluewater Classic, on at the same time.

Getting excited! We're off at sparrows tomorrow. Just put 560 ltrs fuel in my mates boat, plus the 270 under the floor. Nine blocks of p..s, a carton of ciders and three bottles of spirits! 150 gar, 50 mullet, a few queenies.
Probably gone a bit overboard with it all, but better looking at it than for it, I always say. This billfish caper ain't cheap! Haha!

XXXX Gold Billfish Classic
DGFC says record numbers of fish caught, 23 sailfish and three marlin in total.
Lots of sailfish reported 45km off Dundee.
Two big marlin hooked for three hours plus ...
I think the winning team was Firefox (not confirmed) with one marlin and two sails. They dropped five sails and a marlin.
Jason and Melita Rogers fishing with Col Burdon from Reidys Lures lost a big marlin, and they had a great session on dolphin fish.

A lot of billfish around thats for sure, over the 5 days we were away we went 13-11-4. went 4-4-2 during the comp, went pretty quiet during it. caught a sail near the oil rig and lost another on the way over. Raised 5 marlin out of those 13 fish, lost one to a bent hook
. Throughout the comp from what i heard on the radio about 3-4 marlin were fought for a few hours but lost, with one being lost at the double and another marlin was fought for 7 hours but then when they got it back to the top it was a big lemon shark, must be some huge sharks patrolling the depths of the trench..

Lemon Shark - No way.
We fished the trench on Friday and Saturday as part of the Bluewater Classic and went 7-5-1 - we also lost a big Marlin near the rig.
I've got some outriggers on the way, I'm going back for more
