with the billfish comp on & work stopping me again from entering as mates all went over to trench Thursday morning, I thought I would go out & repeat day 1 same as last year when I got a small black
out to south gutter & 2 skipping gars & a laser pro deployed about 730am, bit sloppy from weather overnight
about 5 minutes resulted in a triple hookup of macks so a bit of multitasking & landed all 3, good Spaniards around 8-10kg, chucked the nonbleeding one back
place was alive with bait
couple more over the next hour or so
moved up to the northwestern end & then the sail takes a gar & about 15 minutes later, he's also aboard, quick photos & swam away nicely
all before 10am
only 1 more mack after that that took a gar midair as the brown stinky stuff floated up & pushed all the bait down & dispersed the schools so the sounder says
chased some tuna for a bit but they were very flighty & moving around alot
gave it away about 1 & calm run home
probably just as well I don't enter comps otherwise probably catch buggerall
total 7 macks & 1 sail all solo
cheers
