In about 1994 i saw a friend catch a marlin of about that size out of the Avoca lagoon. I had been opened about three days before and we got hit by a tongue of purple water from up north at the same time. He was up by the road bridge trying to get gar of all things. He got the marlin on a popper and 5kg line after he saw it in the burley trail knocking off the gar.
The next day chasing jew in the lagoon run out, i got a dolphin fish in about 3 metres of water at the back of
the washed out lagoon water (where the dirty plume of lagoon water ended and the clean ocean water took over)
It was happy days for lots of people that week!

If that's a 3000 size Daiwa with 15-20lb braid and the fish jumped alot it's more than possible to land it. The big question is was the fish actually there in the first place?
