Just had a squiz on the 'net re the cost of fishing a 'lake' in Yorkshire, UK. To fish the lake for 24 hours is 20 quid ($35) same cost as my State Impoundment Permit (SIP) to fish any of over 60 dams in Qld for a year. And they need a licence to fish and a licence to use a rod
Pity the poor poms.

Yep, I lived in the UK 30 years ago and even then wherever you fished you had to pay, except for sea fishing. If you walked too far down a river into someone else's jurisdiction you would have to pay again.

Private dams have since popped up everywhere, usually stocked with carp ...

Had to have 3 permits to fish a distance of 1 km in a trout steam in South Island, NZ, just for that same reason, Matt. Odd thing, I never saw any rangers, or bailiffs, whatever they are called. And that was for a 7 week trip.
