Plumbing the depths

Post by AM »

Went out with a mate off Moreton island, out through the south passage bar and kept going another hour and half. This was over the conventional shelf line and down to 350+meters. Pretty impressive for an amateur operation. We got some nice fish including a bass grouper of 32kg. When he was hooked we hooked a couple on that line. They got ther act together and pulled same time same direction and ripped 40 or so meters of 400lb braid against a measured 80kg of drag. Ended up lost the 300lb dropper the other fish was on. The flame snapper are spectacular fish to look at. All of them eat very well.
Was a fun day and something different. The boat is a plate aluminium one he built at home 8+meters with twin 200 suzukis on now. I haven't been on the water much as pretty busy with new house and yard plus very big job but it will happen.

Nice fish Andy

Great you managed to get out for a fish and get a few.

Hopefully you' ll be able to get your tub out soon for a cruise, might have to invest in some bigger gear by the sound of it, lol

You're creek is the only one without a bridge on the way to Dundee now, roads pretty good, won't be too long and ramp will be pretty good too
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

Hi there,

How long does it take to bring back a fish from such depth?

Have a good day,
Pecheur

Still can't get over them pulling line on 80kg of drag . How many hooks
per rig ? would be an amazing battle with 4 or 5 hooked up at once.

Take a look at the business side of these reels Jeff you just dial right up to sunset. They aren't that fast to beat the Sharks at FTB but they don't get tired either. My concern is they provide too much spare time for other stuff :drinking8: while your waiting to hit the surface. Jimmy and I ( or you) would be singing Irish songs before too many fish hit the deck.

That's not fishing Andy, letting the reel do all the work for you!

Though I suppose you did feel the bite, it the fish probably hooked itself, lol

I have no problem with more time for drinking and chatter :-)
