Should we ban plastic for non-essential uses?

Post by Matt Flynn »

Plastic pollution is everywhere, including in fish and shellfish we eat. Should we ban plastic for non-essential uses?

Nope. How do you possibly define "non-essential"

Straws...I am thinking to stop providing them on the bar and provide only on request. Hate the bl..dy things.

Shopping bags, straws, etc. 50 cents on every bottle and can would get recycling rates right up, Germany has a good system.

The old brown paper shopping bags worked fine and can be made from recycled pulp. Agreed re deposits on containers, it would clean up the system. A price worth paying, especially when you consider a bottle of drink is already $3 or so, what is an extra 10c or 20c?

They use the new heavy duty reusable shopping bags down here but everyone treats them the same as the old plastic bags, they probably last 10 times longer when discarded.

Last time I was in NZ they still had the brown shopping bags.

Yep go back to wooden lure LOL. Hemp for bags and paper
Plastic is a big problem in this disposable world. We will never get rid of it unfortunately just need to find more things to reuse it on
The past is history, the future is mystery, the moment is a gift and that's why it's called the present
