I am wanting to talk hubby into a trip to Roper River up near the mouth. Can anyone tell me if you can take a dog with you or is it National Park? Don't want to get there and find out we have to go home because we bought Croc Bait with us. :D

Not national park but you have to be fully self reliant inc water at Port Roper. Croc Bait will be exactly that anywhere near the boat ramp esp at night.

It is part of the Limmen National Park. The Roper River is the northern border of the park. Just google it and it should give yu a map of the boundaries.

Just remember Roper Bar store is closed and there is NO fuel there.

Port Roper is outside Limmen Park on the eastern side (see map).

The eastern boundary of the park cuts back south away from the river before it reaches the mouth.

You simply travel through the park to get to it and a couple of the camping areas inside the park prohibit pets.

Thanks guys.

Croc Bait is Crocwise and doesn't go near the water since Decoy was grabbed by one. Decoy was lucky and managed to get away unharmed but the other dog doesn't go near the water ever since.

Nothing like a good map, Knot. We all get insufficient info at times.

The crabber's camps nearby get crocs going through their campsites, Debi....

The camping area near the boat ramp is flat. Not much tidal movement so its just a short easy stroll from the water, up the little ramp and across completely flat ground to visit campers.

Sounds like you've experienced some of this stuff before so you'll sus it out quickly I'm sure.

Hey ronje, have you ever fished south of the mouth, down past Beatrice and the creeks further down?
Looking at heading out to Lorella next year for a few weeks fishing the coast. Ant info on the area would be awesome.
What’s with the Marine Park, is that just tostop the commercial fishers?
Is there anything stopping us jumping out on a few of the beaches or island and going for a look around? My missis loves just walking around in the prestine beaches.

No mate.

Haven't been down that far.

Maria and Beatrice Is are part of the marine park with buffer zones along th beaches from high tide to low tide.

There is a Commonwealth proposal to include the T.O. area as a Marine Reserve under the NT Aboriginal Land Rights Act which will seal up the whole mainland area out to the low water mark (probably with permits required). Don't know if that's happened yet. Probably pay to check.

For access to the water beyond the low water mark, you'd have to enter the Limmen Marine Park which is NT Govt stuff. Check to see what access requirements are for the NT marine parks. It may simply mean access is ok but activity restrictions apply.

Things seem to be happening all over NT and you're never sure about what's happening at any particular place at any given time.

On face value from the maps, it looks like Port Roper may remain outside of all of that (maybe).

Look how complicated the link itself is just to get to some of the info.
