Camping Trip with Dog?

Hi Guys,
Fairly new to the Territory / Darwin and after any tips for weekend camping spots for fishing and general chillin out with the family not too far from Darwin - so thinking within a few hours drive, so easy to do on a weekend/long weekend trip. A couple of limitations - don't have a 4wd and have a dog that we'd like to take with us (but if too hard might have to try and find a dog sitter).
Cheers for any tips.

Oolloo crossing - keep the dog well away from the water though - Crocs, good chance of Barra or cherabin from the river
Hayes creek - nice campground behind the road house with a nice little creek or as barrabustin said Gunn Point beach

Gun point is a hole. Unles you like broken glass, burnt out cars and quad bikes running up and down all night...

Have to agree silverfox, either your car has a fair chance of gettings burnt out, crabs get stolen left right and centre out of the pots, then to cap it off have to dodge quads and ATVs on the way out as they think its fun to overtake a boat and 4wd doing 90km while kicking up that much dust it causes you to almost stop. I almost cleaned one up head on after some dickheads overtook and he was coming from the other way on the wrong side of the road so the place can eat a fat one as far as I'm concerned. Was a nice place to take the family...

Good old Dundee is as good as anywhere. My young bloke is down there now with his missus and rug rats.
You will probably have to do a bit of cleaning at the good spots though as there's a lot of young ones these days with no morals or ehtics
