The missus and I have 5 days, a dog, swag and well equipped Hilux. We want to go bush and have some peace and quiet but of course, I wouldn't mind catching a few cherabin or a fish if that were possible...

Don't mind driving. Don't really want to be in a dry area or bugged for permits...

Where would you go?

Wiligi? Don't think they have cherabin, but they have plenty of bluewater fishing. Bit average if it blows the whole time tho.

Gunn Point is nice and easy.

Mandorah (Cox Peninsula) has bush camps along the east coast but the easterly blows onto the shore, dunno if I would want to be there five days unless it is just for chilling out.

4-Mile Hole, 2-Mile Hole and other Kakadu bongs. Is Pococks Beach open yet?

Also Crab Claw Island in Bynoe - not really bush camping, but good fishing.

Douglas daly area, there is a track turning off the right side of oolloo rd a while before the crossing which follows the river and has spots you can camp the whole way along it. Beautiful river this time of year, crystal clear water.

Agree with ajay I was down there a week ago and its a awesome place. Drive to olloo crossing and about 5 mins before crossing look for a sign that says daly river esplanade, heaps of camps along the river.
Hot springs are just up the rd too

Thanks all...
First emphasis ...Dog. I cant imagine anything in Kakadu would be open to mutts.

Second concession...This really is foremost a chillin' trip...quality time with the misus and a kelpie pup who needs some time. Selfish of me to think there may be some fishing as well!

Gunn point will be full of my students this time of the year so might leave that out!

We are a pretty bushy pair and would prefer not to see too many people...and would like a wee dram in the dusky hours so no prescribed areas.

Where is Wiligi?

The photo from Timber Creek looks lovely...can you supply a mud-map or rough directions?

I would think Douglas-Daly would be pretty busy in the school holidays? What could be caught from the bank? (...get behind me Satan!)

We are talking about just doing a loop through Roper, Ngukurr, Borroloola, Heartbreak, Daly Waters, Timber Creek and home...just to keep movin' and not have to worry about regulations and tourists...we enjoy travellling and camping on the road (swagging) but it does restrict the drinking.

Our first years together were running free in the Centre and we didn't have to worry about rules, regs and boundaries because either there weren't any or we knew the station / traditional owners. Feel a bit hemmed in now.

Im sure with some exploration, there are plenty spots up here but I don't know the land as well as I do in the middle.

Keep the suggestions coming...I really appreciate it.

If your willing to go that far in 5 days Lorrella springs may well be worth a look.

Just not 100% on the dog situation. Be worth a call to them though.

The main pool, the camp is behind the last white tree on the right.

No crocs, never tried for cherabin. But I will next trip in Sept.

Actually found that pool in 1967 when we were surveying a new road south because of the proposed new dam (Lake Argyle)

If you do go, cross over the creek, and immediately before the grid, turn left for 200m and left again.

Buggaroffski...That's my territory...Oh, OK, seeing you are the boss...

My camp in the estuary.

If anyone goes up as far as I do, make sure the tides are very low. A high tide of 5 m will be about as big as you need; lower is better due to the velocity of the water.

For the tides, look up tides4fishing-turtle point.
