adelaide river boat ramp

im planning on hitting up the adelaide river on a high tide at the arnhem hwy bridge. was just wondering if you guys had any tips on how to retrieve the boat safely back on the trailer. i was thinking of driving it up on the trailer as much as possible while me mate stands on the drawbar and hooks it up to the winch

is this too unsafe for my mate to be standing there? i noticed the concrete sidewalls on the ramp but am unsure whether its enough to deter crocs.

Hi again Sanigav, I admire your 'croc wise' mentality, especially at the Adelaide River boat ramp. I've launched numerous times at the ramp without any issues or major concerns. Main thing is have a good look first (a minute or two first at the ramp) before launching and retrieval. As you are launching at high tide you shouldn't have to launch too deep into the boat ramp and for anyone to get too wet. I've found that the concrete walls are a good barrier against any current drag on the boat so it's an easy launch, just watch your paint job on your new boat! You'll be right, the crocs there are well fed by the tour operators. You'll see some nice sized snapping handbags in that River whilst you are cruising... :croc:

Trying to remember whether there is rocks both sides of the ramp. Need to be 'Johnny on the spot' when launching because the current can grab you there. I've been pretty close to the tour boats before I've got my act together.

At high tide you will be able to launch in the channel/ramp.
no current simple as. start your motor there and should be a simple step off the edge into your boat.
at low tide there are rocks both sides of the ramp. the current is more of a problem but.
ive never had croc issues on the ramp. but ive come back from a day out many a times to see a big one lurking within 5m of the ramp.
normally just cruises off when you get close.

Keep your mate off the drawbar until you are right up against the winch post, then he can hook up. dont forget the chain.
just be aware that crocs are everyhwere. but ive never heard of any problems at the ramp, unlike other ramps.

Reality check boys!!!!!!!!!.

Fact is.... no one has ever been taken or attacked at ramp, or in the whole of the river for that matter. at least since white man started recording. They[crocs] did not even bother about 2
ladies chucked of bridge a few years ago, 48 hours later they came floating to surface without a touch/scratch from crocs.

Sorry to spoil your exitement.

I think you'd have a hard time convincing the blokes that had their boat punctured a couple of years ago, Kai. Whilst it (croc) may have been p...ed off about a tinny in it's area, I think they were lucky. I have heard of a very near miss at the mouth, a couple of decades ago, where a big one launched at the same time the bloke leant forward...again lucky.

True smed, those blokes were my mates. got their boat bitten at marrakai creek.

they were very lucky. They flagged down a boat at the time and told them the story. they were sinking and plugged the holes with bandages from their first aid kit. asked the other boat to follow them to the ramp in case they sunk. the other boat took off and left them on the way.... what mongrels....

they were very lucky. my mates old man is elderly and scared the absolute poop out of him.

The ramp is well suited to the river and protects you at launch and retrieve. I have more concern at Corroboree than the Adelaide, There are crocs that are not 20 meters from the ramp there.

As for Escape, I haven't sighted a fishing report from you. He spends more time stirring people up and slandering than contributing to the forum. Sign of the times I suppose.

I don't think that Escape is being racist as per comment . if we linger on those trivial racist linggos. we may as well just shut up competely. chillout . my parents were strict, cause there was no world wide web before, ...if you know what I mean? sometimes a light humour is like an act of war to some. it should not be. a comment may just mean a light hearted humour, a light within a dark fact? don't explode, please.
when it comes to crocs at ramps,..or water currents that may take yous off balance,?,,,take your time. :) . if it looks dangerous and feel like it is, ? reanalyze the situation. RUSH is the mother of all F ups.
