I just use the auto settings.. every now and then I have a play around with diff settings but I always end up just back with auto. I have just installed structure scan and I was wondering about settings etc. I figure I will just play with it everytime Im out and slowly I will find my way through it all.
Will be interested to see what other responses appear on this topic as I would like to get more out of my electronics, god knows Ive spent enough money on the bl..dy things, they do look pretty flash on your boat though lol.

I bought my HDS from in and out and they went through all the settings that they have found best. The biggest one apparently is to change the transducer to the right one. Just give them a ring and they might talk you through it as they did me.

Once you find what you like the best then you just fine tune to the conditions as most sonuders when the water changes you fiddle a bit.
practice over areas you know well.

Sensitivity........play with it all day. If I'm looking for bottom rather then mid-water bait I crank it up. See below screen shots, you get heaps of clutter near the surface but excellent quality bottom

I have a 10 and have absolutely no idea how to do much else but turn it on! Think the next few trips will be just me and the book!

Thats the key mate, read the book while sitting in the driveway in the boat, even the quick start book has heaps of info.

Put it on simulator and find what suits you the best, but as said you'll need to fine tune it always when out on the water.
