oar length

Hi, I have bought a 2nd hand pair of oars for my Quintrex 350. I've not tried to use them yet, though suspect they will be way too long (about 2.5m each). Is there a rule of thumb as to what length I should cut them to for most efficient rowing? The boat is about 1.35m wide. Cheers.

I think the rule of thumb applies to the diameter at the inboard end.

I crack me up.

On a serious note, the length of the oar is related to the height of the gunwale, the height of the seat and the comfort of the rower. Give them a go, the paddle of the oar should be just under the water with you sitting upright arms outstretched, heaps of stuff on the rowing club websites. Sculling sounds appropriate for the NT
