Hi all.

Just a quick intro, I'm from the New England of NSW and do a bit of cod, yella, bass and trout fishing.

I've got a 4 and a half metre Trophy Hornet and will be moving to Gladstone in a month or so.

Hope to learn some tricks of the trade here.

Cheers, Craig.

Welcome mate, plenty of good coastal fishing between Gladstone and Rocky, and dams too

Thanks Matt.

Used to do a road trip with a couple of mate to Awoonga now and then, just down the road soon!

I heard it's not fishing that good after the flood?

Kinda lucky down that way, since the Lake Awoonga fish escaped they have spread out all over the place. Never know where those monster barras might show up.

Catch up with guide Johnny Mitchell when you get there. He'll give you a good intro to the place. Plenty of fish around that place.

The hot water outlet from the power station at the mouth of the calliope is meant to fish well at times

Thanks fella's.

Dick, I did have the pleasure of meeting Johnny a few years ago at the roadhouse at Banaraby after a frustrating couple of days on the dam.
We sat down and had a great yarn. I'll be sure to catch up with him again hopefully.

Heard about the hot water outlet, sounds alright.

Hope to meet a few keen fisho's from the area at my new job.

Good Johnny Mitchell article here on the Great Escape of 2011 and how it panned out ... http://www.daff.qld.gov.au/__data/asset ... endixE.pdf

Still a lot of debate about whether the sick fish were from overpopulation from 30,000 big barra, the huge flood, or the intensive dredging that was going on at the time.

JM says healthy wild fish were living side by side the sick escaped fish, which is interesting. He also said most of the escaped fish had some sort of injury from the wall fall.
