So was Stairway despite the ruling.

Still the best band tho!

Rubbish. That rarefied Tasmanian air is having an effect Matt. Probably deficient in real oxygen.

Even if it's pretty close its just one ingredient, LZ made something of it, the other band didn't. The bloke who first played that annoying duff duff drum beat must be sitting on a fortune .. after about 20000 court cases.

I prefer Hearts version of it
The past is history, the future is mystery, the moment is a gift and that's why it's called the present

Good comment! Why can't a drummer win copyright on his beat? I'm not aware of it happening.

The case was a joke. Kept the lawyers in wages though.

Stairway was very much a creation of four individually great musicians. Plant was also a good lyricist. As said, the fact one version of the tune flopped and one was a huge hit is judgement in itself.

Same goes with Men at Work's song that cost them a fortune because of the "Kookaburra in the Old Gum Tree" melody ... it was only part of the song, Men at Work's song was unique, the damages payment should have reflected that.

Every melodic possibility is probably represented in multiple tunes.
