Katherine fun circa 1990

Post by Matt Flynn »

Katherine circa 1990.

Couldn't practise in the share house I was staying at so went bush and set up under the speakers.

Sometimes set up at night on a raised area on the Gorge road where the local beekeeper used to keep his hives, there'd be storms rolling across the plain lighting up the bush, the odd rum and coke, sweat, good times!

Yes, was just talking about the Kombi the other day. Sold it reluctantly too.

Mother-in-law had one as well, although she didn't like it so much after being trapped in the front by the foot in an accident, Kombis were not good for front end accidents.

Did have some old Katherine Gorge fishing photos but can't find them.

Nomad - it was a bit like that ...

I had a Sandman many moons ago, wish I'd kept it......sold it to finance a 351 XC panel van......

That Sandman was the fastest panel van in the Wagga/Junee area back in my old RAAF days........

Amarok eh Jeff. I hope the German engineering lives up to its reputation. Or maybe not!

351 would have gone alright around Katherine Blinky :D

A mate had a Sandman lookalike with a 202 in it.

Kombi had an 1800 ... like unwinding a rubber band, but much better than the 1600 it replaced. My dad drove one across Europe around 1960 with a 1200.

I seen a yellow Sandman Panel Van cruising around town yesterday.Havent seen one in a very long time.Never owned one but the sight of it brought back memories from years long ago of hanging around the Southern beaches of Sydney just trying to look cool.

Well before my Katherine days Matt, around '78 I got the XC, sold it when I left Ipswich to move up to Darwin......couldn't afford the fuel to for the big V8.
