Has anyone got a handheld vhf I could borrow, just for a day or arvo. On my last trip my vhf wasn’t working with the other boat I was with. I don’t know if it was mine or his with the problem. I just want to borrow one to check mine, and if it’s is mine, used it to work out what the problem is.
Let me know if you have one. There’s a 6 pac in it for you.
Cheers mickey

Darwin radio is usually good for a radio check, I forget the protocol but I'm sure someone on here could remind us

Re: Hand held vhf
No need for a h/held.
As Matt says.
Get on Ch 16 and call Darwin Radio. If they answer, then both the rf and the audio is working.
If they don't answer, go to ch21 and press the button momentarily. If you get the "tail" back, then the rf section is working.
If you don't get the "tail", take it to a radio tech.
(Assuming that ch21 is still working ok these days.)

Darwin Port will hold a 24hr listening watch on channels 16 and 10. I forgot their callsign but if you use "Darwin Harbour Control" you cant go wrong. I'd call them on 16 and they might conduct the radio check on 16, because of it's usual brevity, or shift you to a working channel. BUT listen out for a couple of minutes before jumping in on 16. Just in case it's currently being used for an emergency
