Howdy,

With speed limits coming in for all commercial vessels inside the port of Darwin soon
It should be a lot more pleasant out there...

Its certainly going to be nicer with less big wakes about and itll be a huge benefit to protecting wildlife.

With the dredging coming to an end in June/July, seeing dredges & barges leave and the introduction of speed restrictions....

Im certainly all for it.... Going to make harbour nice again for fishing & diving...

I don't see it having any benefit for the wildlife. Surely the local megafauna populations, ie: dolphins/turtles etc are more at risk from the recreation vessels that present more traffic at higher speeds than the existing commercial presence.

I knew you would bite... Haha!

Im not even going to get into which is worse... Recreational or commercial....
I just believe & support what the port corp is doing is correct.

Ships have to keep fairly high speeds to allow for steerage.
we have been a sleepy little harbour for a long time. traffic is only going to increase.

You'll get no argument from me either. Every other port in the country has enforced speed limits, With the growth in Darwin Harbour it's only sensible that they implement them here.

The unfortunate thing is that some of the large vessels will produce greater wash at lower speeds, ie: Carriers with a bulbous bow.
However the wash won't travel as far, which should help minimise the impacts on people at anchor, Wharves etc.
