Hi all ,
this may have been asked before but,
I have been thinking about installing a bow mount, but would prefer to install it at the transom, is there any logic or design limitation that stops you from installing a bow mount on the transom?
suggestions?

That would be a transom mount.
The bow mount gives you much more manoeuvrability.
It will hold you on the spot with spot lock (acts as an anchor against the current) you can move into and out of tight spots much easier than the transom mount
I still fish out of the transom but make the bow mount my anchor.

Definitely put it at the bow, I've had both and there's no comparison!

Bow mount means you are pulling the boat where you want to go. Transom mount means your steering is far less sharp. It is better to fish from up front as well, you sight fish earlier and don't have to cast over your boat. You can also see rocks before you hit them

Mudskippa,
mate I have a bow mount 80 lb ipilot on my 5.2 metre GS boat and its awesome.
If you mount on the transom then you are locked to fishing from the rear of your boat - you will generally expose the side of your boat to any wind and its a pain in the arse. The bow mounts allow you to direct your boat and it really does help when the boat is being pulled by the electric fro up front as opposed to being pushed from down back - in the wind in bigger boats the front section of the boat will catch the boat and react to any wind where as it is less likely to be affected by any wind when the drive source is up the front.
My dad uses a transom mount in the river Murray but he generally fishes from down back and his boat is very small so the first question is what size boat are we talking about but the advice given by other is good - go see Michael at In and Outboard as he is very knowlegable with regards to this stuff.

Like the other guys have said a bow mount gives you a lot more maneuverability and is a lot easier to steer.
I have used both, bow and transom mounts, and there is no way I would ever consider a transom mount.

I used to have a 40lb transom mount on my 3.7. It was cr.p. So I made a bracket to clamp it on the front. So much more control in the oyster leases Haha
cheers Brent

Thanks to everyone for the comments , very interesting that everyone seems to have the same opinion, some good points !
the couple of reasons that I asked the question was relating to the e/motor getting less of a caning at the rear (as in when the water is rough),it would be closer to my sounder , so no need for a second unit (5.2 quinnie Dory is the hull by the way)
The boat is a work in progress , but positioning of the motor has a large impact on the end result and basic design, any other thoughts?
I am in Gove by the way, so can't just pop in to see anyone in Darwin!
