Fishos,
looking at buying a new Honda 100hp.
Anyone own one and can give me a rundown on them, the good and bad etc?
They come with a 7yr warranty now which is why ime leaning towards them over a Suzi or Yammi

Bump, I am pretty interested in what anyone has to say about the new Honda. I am looking at changing over my etec HO soon and like what I hear about the 7 year warranty.

I have put a brand new 100hp Honda on the 6m fishseeker.
Pushes the boat along well and gets good fuel economy

The warranty is a good piece of mind until you realise who you have to deal with locally. The motor was fitted slightly too high on mine and I have some bad burn marks on the back of the prop. The motor was also overheating. They dropped it a hole and all was solved although won't replace the prop at this stage and state that it's a tag on my hull creating the issue.

Yet to resolve this issue with them. See how it plays out.

Motor cruises as 42kph on 4100-4200 and 56kph at WOT.

If they argue over something from the setup then what is 7 year guarantee worth. Gagey

Whats the price difference compared to a 100hp yammy these days? Thats what I would be getting.

Either way sounds like you will be tied to the local dealer if you want the extended warranty (which I reckon is BS personally). You should be able to use any reputable mechanic. Yamaha said you only get 2 year warranty if you go elsewhere (4 years if stay with dealer).

You could fight the warranty cr.p for sure.
Price for the yammi was 15.5k for the 100, but they wanted to charge 1800 for fitting so I walked out.

I would consider Suzuki although for some reason I forgot all about them when looking.

A lot of suzuki's have had cooling issues of late. They are a lot cheaper but I don't have much time for them from what I have heard and seen.

Yammy or Honda for me!

Jeez, and I'd just about talked myself into getting a new Suzi 140. Back to the drawing board. The new Merc's are meant to be good. It's hard to find anything on the net about newish models for any brand I've found.

Forums tend to give resolution to the most extreme opinions good or bad. Much of the information is not truly representative. Be sceptical of anything on line.

Between myself and 4 others I know of who recently purchased new suzy's, none of the 2012-2014 Suzy's ranging in HP from DF90, DF115, DF140 and DF150 have had any cooling issues. One burnt out an ECU which was replaced without hassle on warranty. Otherwise they have been faultless.

Personally I think anything Yammy is good but excessively priced. For me it's a case of buy Japanese taking into account price, displacement, robust proven technology and weight. So I went Suzy! 130 hrs later, happy as and no regrets! Suzy offered great power to weight, timing chain, large oil pan capacity, multipoint fuel injection, good warranty and competitive pricing.

I can give you at least 4 people that I know having troubles with them at the moment. 3 of them are relatively new motors. One has a cracked head. All of the motors once the head was pulled off have had sediment build up blocking or restricting the cooling journals. It appears that the system is struggling with the amount of sediment in the big rivers. I personally used 2 Suzuki's picking up clients at crab claw. Both motors sucked up sediment blocking the water from the tell tail and slowing the cooling water flow. The mechanics had to pull the whole motor apart to clean them out. If you run in clean water all the time I don't think you will have problems but if you are a river runner and work in shallow water a lot I would look away from a Suzi!

One thing to consider is parts availability. I damaged the gearbox on my honda 75 and had to wait 6 weeks for delivery. Some problems with honda spares me thinks
