I upgraded with Quality Marine and they did a great
Job. The mechanics work was very neat and tidy.
They even included prop testing the boat.

That was including the postage. I try and do all the repair work myself and buy whatever tools I need to get the job done. Generally it comes out the same or cheaper than taking it to be worked on by professionals. I keep telling myself the next job will be cheaper because I won't need to buy that tool again, but somehow there is always new tools to buy.

Hi fff1964 I just bought my diagnostic kit from brpdiagnostics.com cost about $200 aussie delivered.

While on the subject I have just been advised from the USA that a new retailer/agent for Yandina stocking the Trollbridge 24 system for 24 volt trolling motors charging off 12 volt is setting up in Melbourne hopefully making them cheaper. Jason Pace [email protected]

dannet where do you get your special tools?

Cheers grumpy

Grumpy, with the exception of the BRP diagnostic kit to repair an idle control valve I haven't need anything too special yet. Pretty much all generic gear, spanners, sockets, torque wrench, multi meter etc. For the tools I am going to use a lot I pay for the quality ones, if I don't think I will need it again I go cheaper provided it's not to chincy and upgrade later if I ind I am using it frequently.

Recently I broke the input spline in the gearbox but I have just taken that into Northern Propellers for replacement (under insurance). I thought pretty hard about doing the repair myself but decided with my current skill set and lack of area to do the work it wasn't feasible. Also the parts alone were going to cost as much as a brand new gearbox, no brainer really. The task would have required a few specialised tools. But if you had a decent workshop, solid bench with a vice , a drill press, and were handy with a welder you could probably knock most of the tools up from scraps. At the end of the day many of them are just glorified sockets.

That said iboats.com probably have a few these, good value and ship to Darwin in about 10 days. I bought a heap of parts for a service and a prop from there with a workshop manual for about the same cost as the prop locally.

Ebay. It came out of Romania or somewhere crazy. I bought the software, the test lead, and a Yammy and Suzuki adapter for about that price. I have a suzuki, but I like Yammys, and it was only an extra $20 or so for the Yamaha adapter.

I'm happy to lend it out if needed.
