Casuarina beach stinking

Just a quick note, the family and I went for a walk down at Casuarina beach yesterday evening....there was a decided smell coming off the beach. Soon worked out what the smell was as the tide started to flood in bringing with it a carpet of a dark green algae bloom. It was frothing up on the beaching waves and I saw absolutely no bait fish down there at all! This didn't look like the usual reef/coral spawn that you get, definitely an algae type substance.

Anyway just thought it might be of interest.

I reckon that would be it Matt....I hadn't seen that report but definitely what we encountered....and as I said it was more an algae bloom than coral spawn.

Usually "coral spawn" is trichodesmium ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichodesmium

Seems to be more of it around. I asked a long-term local at Dingo Beach, Qld, if there was more around his area in recent years and he seemed to think so.
