A recent initiative at Lake Macquarie. Further strengthening the education will only assist this impressive fishery; back from the brink post the nets circa 16 years ago.
If it's not already I believe it will become the best flathead fishery in Australia. This initiative recognises current status and potential.
well done DPI!

That's smart.
They need to gene splice 'em down here to make them big.

I would have thought that there was enough same family gene slicing in Tasmania already

It's also needed in the Hastings River. When I was young I used to snorkel over a particular weed bed in the river and often saw 1m+ flathad. I often wonder if they still frequent this same spot

Shoot me the co-ords Lats and I'll let you know...
I've seen 3 around the 120 mark, all from the lake and heard whispers of several in excess of 130. Croc status.

Pulled a few out of there in my youth ( sooooo long ago ) . I can remember a 42 inch caught on a cork line and stinking prawns .
Great idea from the DPI , it would be great to see that fishery spring back to its glory days when flatty's up around the old yard mark weren't too uncommon .
Thanks for the post NBN , brought back a few fond memories .

Swansea Channel and Pullbah island was always a productive spot for big dusky lizards, good to see times and people's attitudes have changed towards releasing big fish for the future, I know in the past i have kept big fish that would be released without question today!

Nice fish Jeff (42inch), they are a serious adversary at that size. The head shake alone will pop your loop knot.
Yes Trent, have seen some large critters at Pullbah, including a Great White.
