For Qld members of FFF

In late 2014, a review team(MRAG) led by professor Glen Hurry reported to Govt on the "the new road for fisheries management" in Qld.

A new Govt was elected in early 2015 and it introduced 3 net free zones.

Then the govt released the MRAG review and asked for public comment.

Now the Govt has "distilled" what it sees as major issues into a Green Paper and asked for comment on that.

Attached is my submission to that Green Paper.

I don't know enough about issues that lots of others do like sustainability, quotas, stock sharing, replenishment etc so I didn't comment on those.

But I did comment on compliance and resourcing.

For your information.

That's good, an interesting mathematical analysis of the offences.

And a good point about why people would call the fisheries hotline.

Will there be changes after the public input? Or are there pixies in head office?

Sure hope there are changes, Matt

Minister is poised with a bucket of eggs and a big stick. Omelette or a big mess?

Couple of areas of NT fisheries management that Qld could learn from. Some aspects of enforcement, netting and fishing tourism.

Fisheries Qld is divided into "clusters" ( public service speak for regions/districts) with the regional/district officer now called called a cluster manager.

Pointy head desk jockeys dream up these clever terms completely oblivious to what the term means to their customer base and are bewildered when people laugh at them.

The only cluster that fishing people know is the clusterf..k that ends up in a baitcaster if not thrown properly.

So the regional/district officer is known as a clusterf..ker.

Fisheries Qld is coming from a long way back.
