Went for a flick this arvo, found a sneaky spot through the steep 80-ft bank and undergrowth to a rock ledge at the tail end of a run, and it produced some nice skip baits

Hope ya like the pix, something a bit different ... check out the spiky bush growth near the Reidys packet.

I love echidnas. They come with their own toothpicks after puttimg them in the pot.

Tried the fly last week when the river dropped to a good level, but the buggers were rising in a deep pool with no access, I would have needed a snorkel to wade it.

The river went up since, but when it drops again I'm taking the barra 9-weight out as I found the 3/4-weight rod too light, and if they take the spinners pictured then they will take a big wet fly chucked on a 9-weight.

I also promised Pecheur I would catch a trout or salmon on a green Polty, I haven't tried yet

Yes I was hoping that the photo of it would be in this thread...


But nice catches any way, trout on spiner remind me of the fishing I was doing during school holiday as a kid.
When it was not school holidays, it was mostly pike and zander fishing.

But at the time we used 3 metres long fibre glass rods, they were not full but made of hollow tube of fibre glass, and were all the rage then.
Light and good to cast light spinner where we wanted them...
The times and technologies have changed...
I remember when one of my mates bought his first carbon (graphite) rod, and we were all what is that? That look cool...

I fished tassie over Christmas, bakers beach & arthurs lake. Weather was perfect. Got into a heap of flatties at bakers. Will post some pics, have to get them off my other phone.

Haven't been to Arthurs yet, must be good, everyone raves about it. What weight rod did you find best up on the lakes?

I want to try Plimsoll for a brook trout, this fish is still on my bucket list ...

Also want to try some beach fishing Bushie, took the kids to Randall Bay this weekend, what a great place - water was even warm enough for a swim!

Water was only a foot or so deep so I wasn't lying ...

I used a 4wt. you need it to throw into the wind which has been known to blow at times down there
Try Craigborne dam near richmond for Brook trout as well
I got a few brookys on the derwent between cluny and repulse. go out Lyell Hwy, turn left at Dawson Rd (across meadowbank) and head up til you get to a little camping spot just before the road crosses a bridge.

Did I miss something When did you move to Tassie?? There's plenty of quality fish to be had down there and in some pristine country, except of course the bits that have been clear felled.................. All you ever hear about is the trout but there's top shelf fishing for tuna, bream, kingies,snapper,salmon and plenty of others if you take the time to suss it out. Nice trout

Haven't fished much yet Melv, but have caught a load of squid (on trolled barra lures), some coutta, bream, flathead, trout and a big Atlantic salmon.

Apparently the kingies and snapper are moving south, and KG whiting too. Will give them a go in due course.
