Kalbarri

well I grew up not far from Kalbarri, and started my fishing there as a young feller catching, tarwhine, bream, whiting and Tailor mainly, off the sand bar.

always used to watch the cray boats go out the mouth into the swell and think they were mad, but always wondered what sort of fish got caught out the front.

Anyway, my brother in Perth has somehow won a charter trip at Kalbarri for a few days, and we are trying to work out when to go there, been a while since I fished there and don't really read too much about WA anymore.
Might have to do some searching and see what I can come up with.

We are planning around March April next year 2014!

Anyone done a bit of fishing out there?? any ideas or help would be appreciated

cheers

86

Hi 86 march or april for Kalbarri should be fine, swell low and winds light but as you would know the time you book for will be blowin its arse off, always plenty of fish though

North West Blowies!!!

Biggest I've seen

Went out the mouth in my hornet trophy, was a bit scary but fine once outside just the swell to contend with.

Missus wanted to keep the blowies     ( no unwelcome puns thx gents) ;-)

Apparently Mackies, Dhuies,Baldies etc....mulloway at the mouth

Great spot either way Dennis!!

Been out through Hells Gates in Gerraldton a few times in a blow, now there's something not for the faint hearted
The dhu fish tend to move in close at the end of May start of June as the white crays move in
I use to fish 3 mile and 9 mile from the beach and reef on the long weekend in June every year and caught some awesome fish landbased
Charter should have no problems puting you onto fish in March but as you would know that part of the coast can be treacherous in a Westerly
Google should be able to help you out on the prevailing winds for March in that area, get an easterly and your laughing
Good luck with the fishing Dennis

Regards
Shaun

yeah thanks Shaun

that's what I'm hoping for, and that time of year is usually pretty good

planning on driving down from Darwin and stopping a few places on the way, depends on the roads in the top end!! out to Steep Point again and shooting at the old property at Ajana.

should be a good trip!!

Havnt caught a decent Dhufish for a few years now, used to get heaps of Two rocks in the early 80's.

If you taking a boat don't forget to stop in at port smith, top class fishing for reefeies and pelagics . Can pass on few marks if you do

going down to Perth, then across to Adelaide and home coastaljoy.

nah not taking boat ponyplay, brother has a boat in Perth, will probably have a go around rotto, and in the swan for Kingies(Mulloway)

Just landbased on the way down, probably do a charter at Coral Bay as well as the one at Kalbarri.

Looking forward to Steep point again, top spot!!

Nope, but hope it's yet another great trip for you.

Would have to beat the options down here in Melbourne in winter in any case.....
