Cyclone Rita forecast to turn ... if it travels the right way that's 27 days to reach Darwin if it does 6km/h, or 16 days if it does 10km/h :D

Trying to lift run-off hope

Here's some more.

At Darwin's latitude a cyclone might travel at 20km/h, at which speed Rita would be just eight days away.

Cyclones have been known to travel faster, at 100km/h, but usually at higher latitudes.

If Rita moved at 50km/h it would be just under four days away.

Also, the Coral Sea is an area of known fast cyclone intensification. It is an area where huge cyclones have formed recently, such as Yasi. Cyclone Yasi had a core region 500km in diameter, and storm activity spread 2000km wide.

So, from a barramundi fisho's point of view, the good news is that this distant cyclone could arrive sooner rather than later if it tracks the right way. The bad news for everyone else is that it's a cyclone.

If you mob had organised a rain dance or something similar we might have got a better result.
