2018 Club Marine Barra Nationals

Post by Matt Flynn »

The 2018 Club Marine Barra Nationals kicks off on the Daly River on Wednesday.

The NT Barramundi Classic follows in early May.

Anyone in the comps can post a report or update, I'll also post anything of interest that comes in.

70 boats down there this morning apparently!

3 day rest then the Classic followed by a 10 day rest before the women's comp.

Gotta wonder if the Barra learn what not to chase as they're going to be sketchy for a while after all that I reckon :)

I sort of agree Flicken. I saw the clip yesty of all the boats lined up waiting to launch. Then like you said all day for probably bugger all fish. And to top it off hitting the p..s then nursing a hangover next day....Hardly what I'd call fun. Each to their own I suppose and it's definitely for the prestige......

If you can consistently pull a win out of those big comps it says a lot about your skill ... one win might be luck, but consecutive wins are skill.

Some people like the social side of it, it's not just about the fish.

Good news, ty Tristan

Been told five gearboxes done already? River must be low. Or the bunyip has grown.

A fairly simple equation, velocity x mass + ego = broken engine.

:captain: Ouch.

A busy day for the mechanics in Darwin on Saturday if they're not out fishing!

Yeah, spoke to a mate last night. He did a prop shaft on the warm up day. His words were "there has been carnage" on the river.

Heard from a good mate who is a policeman that 5 boats enroute to the Daly were found with illicit substances! Not sure whether their competitors or not, but would be a waste of a trip.... enough adrenaline catching fish or boating the rivers nowadays.

Can't say I'm surprised, a big week of late nights and early mornings soon leads to chemical enhancement.

Tough fishing down there Matt with plenty of competitors still wearing skirts on the second day. River is low and has damaged quite a few props. Biggest fish for day 1 87cm and 91cm on day 2.

Me and the boss snuck out for a sneaky land based fish while we were down there and managed to bang a few really good fish on Fizzers before dawn around 80-90 cms. Great fun....especially when we could rub it into the competitors who were still fishless later that day :)

It's funny Tristan, has happened over the years that people clean up during the night between the comp days. Fish must like the "quiet" of the night.

Thanks for the Nats update
