From Katherine Rod and Rifle's Warren de With today.
"The Barra Nationals will be below average in total catch, but certainly not a wipeout. It will be a test for the fishos," he said.
"The event is starting on big tides, those who are switched on to catching big barra on the big tides will be the ones who might jump out of the blocks, and as the tides get neaper if they can then get the smaller fish they might win.
"Getting the early points on a big fish could be the way to go.
"The flush from Cyclone Nathan has certainly helped pump some water down the river.
"Last year the Nationals was hard work, and the Daly was hard for the whole year.
"I reckon the Barra Classic in May will be tougher, as by then some of the barra may have moved out of the river."

Day 1

Team Dilligaf with 1021 points
Team Fusion with 649 points
Team Tackleworld with 549 points

One third of the 60 teams caught nothing, which also means two thirds got one ...

Over 75% of the entrants caught nothing, could be a long week for many.

Day 2 unofficial scores
dilligaf 1st 1400 odd points - Got 2 meterys on day one.
Team fuson 2nd 860 odd points
Tacklewold 3rd 745 points - Got 1 metery day one.

170 fish caught between 190 competitors. A couple meterys caught with the biggest going 107cm 102cm and a couple of high 90's. Tough going but the odd quality fish for those in the know. Team N.A.F.A. had a great day and moved into the top 5 around the 700 point mark.

Big difference between days one and two unless the same teams caught the fish, either the fishing improved or the teams had a better idea of what to do after day one. Or both.

Today should be the best fishing as we drop off the peak spring and get a longer period of clean water and still have some movement. I suggest smaller fish and harder fishing tomorrow and the the last day.

Good to see Dilligaf doing well, I assume it is the same team as Blinky's in the Barra Classic. Those home-grown lures might be paying off.

Thought your team in the Classic was DILIGAF Blinky. Might have my wires crossed, life's a blur ...
