--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
People have had their say and the rules have now been finalised. Here they are for all to refer to if needed...
1)You can submit your best legal barra each month.
2) 1 point will be awarded for every cm of fish.
3) You must submit a picture of the fish on a brag mat, sticker or tape measure -Make sure the fish's mouth is closed and up against the end of the brag mat
4) You must submit your fish before the end of the month - with a report attached by the end of the first week of the following month at the latest. (unless prior arrangment)
5) You don’t have to catch a fish a month to win - but do to complete the barra a month challenge
6) Barra may be caught anywhere, on live bait or on lures
7) You must supply the date captured, location, length and method (lure, live bait) as well as a short catch description or a link to a story about your trip
8 ) NO PHOTOSHOPPED entries
9) If your entry is missing any of the above then it will not count
10) No barramundi fishing guides permitted
11) Newspaper in photos to prove catch date

Does this mean Faulksy came second then in the 09 challenge?

I think there should be a review,if not a Royal Commision...

I think you’ll find the only guiding CB did last year was showing me around Shoal Bay...
but i'll let CB respond to those claims..

For what it's worth I think the 'No guides' rule is a good one, and its not just you back-cast there are plenty of guides who could kick our buts, I mean look at it this way, if a barra guide COULDN'T get a decent legal barra every month they wouldn't be worth their weight in cow dung - seriously, it's their job. :fishing:

Geez Louise Backcast thats a highly emotional response whats wrong getting Barra fever in down town Brisbanal.

I would have thought any guide worth his salt wouldn't fish with clients on board so in actual fact they probably get less oppurtunity to fish for themselves than the rest of us. For what its worth Backcast I would like to see you ( and Dick for that matter) in this comp because it is going to make it that much sweeter when I unload the pain.
I think this is all getting a bit serious if I wanted to let fishing keep me up at night I would get a few freinds buy matching shirts and fish the Classic with the rest of the Guru's

PS To make it intresting all my fish are going to come from Leayner Drain 12 from 12 from the turd farm how can you beat that ?????????:fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu: :fu:

So looking at the Rules....

Bandit is ineligable for this years comp.... ????

Did'nt you do a bit of guiding for the "Thunda" this in my eyes makes you a guide...????
or that rule does not aply to you because you are special...???

& i remember you asking me about insurance ect for guiding this year,, in fact i think i still have the P.M. in relation to this...
or are only certain guides not allowed to enter....
like for example, ones that might kick your ass....
or are am i mistaken that rule is aimed at me......
why not just say

10) Back-cast can't enter the compitition because he might beat me.. ????

For my money you can
GET STUFFED....
just to clear things up BC the rule wasnt made for you - i know of a heap of guides on here, some who post some who just take info.. as matt said and a few other people guides have a swag load of unfair advantages. being on the water every other day for starters. were trying to keep the comp at a social level, and my argument is that if guides enter the average joe who goes barra fishing half a dozen times a year wont enter. Keeping the comp on a social level, the majority of prizes with be monthly prizes, sure who ever takes it out will win something, but this is the barra challenge, its not about who is the greatest fisherman of the year but the challenge along the way - which is why u dont have to be the greatest fisherman to be in with a shot - which is why i believe this is a good ''social'' challenge..

Yeh im going to enter, cause i want to support it and put some of the lures i won last year back into the kitty. But like moonman said theres noway im gonna take it as seriously as last year. I racked up 400 hours in my barra crazed addiction to try and win the challenge. I will continue to take it seriouslly til june as im in another comp but after that will slow down, i dont really want to be able to say ive caught a barra every month for 3 years running cause thats would be pretty sad on my part. haha even thought of forgoing a month just so this dosnt happen haha.

Just to clear a final thing up i havnt ever done any barra guiding. I did one week guiding last year out at SSB, which was bluewater fishing and only cause i was asked - an made an offer i couldnt possibly refuse 8-) 8-) .. plus i got to go fish coburg for free which was a mega bonus..

Your right i did look into starting a little guiding business last year, and i really appreciate the information you gave me at the time, and i made sure i thanked you!!!! i asked a few other guides and noone else responded so i thank you again  i looked at the costs of getting insurance, FTO, TV plates and other associated costs such as buying some more gear, advertising, stickers, getting a domain for a website ect ect and quite frankly it was to expensive. I was only gonna do it as a small money spinner between uni but worked out i would have had to do a heap of charters (that i might not even got) before i would break even let alone make a cent of profit, so that idea got put on the backburner!

Anyway backcast, didnt mean to offend you creating that rule mate, just trying to keep it social and encourage the most amount of people to enter. Maybe we could start a friendly thread for guides and you can all post up your biggest barra of each month to see who is the best barra guide in the topend? i got a feeling tho most guides wouldnt enter cause a), their to secretive and b) would be to scared of getting beaten by another guide and the rivialrly that would go along with that..

anyway cheers :drinking1:

Well this is a nice change of scenery, keep it coming...its getting me through a few slow weeks here in Adelaide....

BC I'm on your side, the Recreational fishos owe you and Geoff a lot for sticking your necks out last year...plus your the only guide to tell me to troll closer to their spot to get a fish...

You can't stop him from entering cos he's a guide, why don't you stop pensioners and students because they have more time to go fishing...thats my two cents worth... anyhow between landing fish for clients, reporting illegal fishing and video taping big blue boats on mud bars I don't you have time to win the comp BC

Not happy about no photoshoped entries either, I wont be able to air brush my toenails so they look better in the brag matt pictures

Not fair on the average joe to have pro barra guides eligible, they usually have advantages in terms of know-how and sheer time spent on the water, not to mention often having better boats and equipment, so the rule stays.

I would organise a separate comp for barra guides and their punters but I doubt there is enough of them on the forum to make it worthwhile, if you are a guide and keen let me know, if the numbers stack up I'll do it.

As for BC and Geoff Corry - yes we owe them for their Fog Bay efforts and contributions to this forum but this is a different matter, the comp has to be a level playing field for regular punters.

I considered a handicap system but it would be too messy.

Dear matt
if a fishing guide is fishing then he is not guiding ,i as a guide hardly ever get the chance to fish .very unpro so it would be not fair on guides to fish this comp  also fishing guides are that not, blue water guides ,barra guides, swamp guides ,they are fishing guides. :moon:
now mr BC on the rules that are for the comp, you can enter because you are not employed as a fishing guide and you don't own a boat, rod ,reel or even a lure. so have fun.  . you will still lose because we can't get that camera out of your hands
on a more serios note Brent thanks for your support ,with the poop we created it was a bit sad out on the water for a wile and march it will start again ,cameras at 50 paces :hunting: :banghead:  [/code]

I can see this turning into a head f..k this year, already way to serious. And the first fish of the year is posted on a blured white tape ????
Lets consentrate on the monthly p..s up, surelly this is wat the comp should be about

I hear what you are saying ponyplay, but there might be a different bunfight at the end of the year unless we have good rules and stick to them

The intention is to make it fun. I'll create a separate "Guides Class" and knock together a prize. Here's an idea - the winner could have a daytrip with BarraBase

Wouldn't it be classic if a certain 'blue boat guide' entered and won, then had a day out with Geoff and BC! Would love to be a fly on the bow for that one! :lolpoint: :lolpoint:

I think the comp sounds excellent. Especially with the mystery prizes and monthly prize to give everyone a chance. For me I think its good because it gives you an extra incentive to go barra fishing to try and complete the 12 from 12 challenge.

Good luck everyone have a good year on the water.
