Looking for your 'when things really turn to shite at sea' sub forum. No matter this will do. My son and my effort from last Wednesday at Kalumburu.

For the record the hull breach was 65cm long.

Great work. Top video too.

Lucky you are a closet livebaiter and had all those lead sinkers :D

Always a worry with pressed alloy boats, seen it happen.

That’s a Rippa video, well done for keeping your cool and working through it. And for filming to too, that’s pretty good going. You never know who may revert back to this when they find them self in the poop and use some of your ideas and solutions.
Thanks for sharing.
Have you asked your missis for a new boat yet?

Incidentally I always carry a wad of that Permasteel epoxy putty around. In the case of this two rather than to one would have been better. The issue I have with it is that it only lasts a couple of years before going hard. The lot I had was just about at the end of its' 'use by' date for up here, hence the lead and putty mix. I've since heard there might be some better products around now that still set by a chemical reaction but might be better designed. I'll be on the lookout for what's new.

Excellent example of a bushman's skills and practical solution to a difficult problem in a very remote location, impressive work indeed.

great effort there men ,yes using the lead was pretty clever ,i have a battery drill ,sikaflex and rivets as well as other bit and pieces in the boat on big trips like that as well as aslways 3 pieces of 50mm pvc around 600 long for those days when boat might get stuck on a sandbar .i used them once for a retreival of another boat and they worked a treat

Thanks Dick some great tips there for future reference if required.

Mate and I had similar problem with his Webster twin hull with a big split. We managed to stuff rag and mangrove sticks into the crack good enough to get us from Cape Hotham back to Leeders Creek.

cheers grumpy
