Kimberley Fishing ideas?

Post by Captain6979 »

FishHunter81 and I are going for a little drive down to El Questro station in WA in a couple of weeks, and were gunna pack a rod each. Any ideas of where might be worth a flick along the way? We will be in a 2wd vehicle, so easy access places would be great for ideas.

Cheers Team!!

Hunter81 n the Captain.

Mates used to fish the river at El questro itself regularly and catch good fish, there are good barra and sooty grunter in and immediately below lake kunnanura, Barra at Timber creek and pretty much anywhere on the Ord is worth a flick, especially if you can get some live bait.

Hi Hunter
keep going past elq to the penticost for a flick you will be able to walk down past the crossing to the right or left and flick in the fresh water, dont normally get stonkers but lots of little rats, be careful of crocs. good camping around there but you will be restricted driving further in with a 2wd.

good fishing below the diversion dam (bridge with gates on the way out just past the airport) but your not allowed down there so fish with caution...

flick a lure at the dunham just after the diversion dam about a k or two down on the highway road

once you hit the gibb theres pretty much nowehere to fish from the turn off unitl you hit the penticost all the creeks will be dry as a bone

I liked Mambi and Skull Rock camps on the Ord, wouldn't say they were red hot fishing spots, but pleasant camping and you could fish off the bank at night, with care. Mambi had plenty of fish boofing at night but the water near the camp was very shallow. Skull Rock was good with the dinghy.

The creek mouth at the camping area on home valley station was the best fishing I had last time I was up that way. Half way down the low tide was best casting lures in the clearer water inside the creek a little bit.

Keep in mind what Dick said about 2WD, he lives out there and knows the state of the tracks

Try the mouth of big horse at the ramp on the VIC
I,m told the upper reaches are walk-able too.

Think some spots on the Pentecost can be reached but
not sure what vehicle is required.

Cheers
