Putting up a thread after earlier reports posted on the chat bar.

Would love to know what happened to the other boat. One of the fellas said it was big, real big. So that could be anything from a charter to a ship etc. Surely the other boat, ship would know they hit somthing. Harbour records would show which shipping was inthe vicinity.
Glad they are all ok

Glad everyone is ok, could've been so much worse from the sounds of initial reports. Was also out and about Saturday towards Skottowee, blew up a little also.

Looking at the harbour movements and marine traffic for Saturday afternoon and track of vessels I don't think it's going to be hard to work out the responsible vessel.

Looking forward to hearing more when you're up to it Jeff, I like spending some nights on the water but things like this occurring does make it scary. Very interested to know some more about the crew and watch training from the vessel responsible for the collision especially their electronics and RADAR suite and use.

Again glad everyone is alright.

Good every one survived Jeff. That would have been horrible to be involved and end up in the water.

Surely radars that are on larger boats have an alarm capablity?

And if so, then someone really f.... d up.

I suspect it would be law to keep watch regardless of auto pilots and radar alarms.

It will be interesting to see the outcomes of this. It's a huge story really and thankfully it didn't end in tragedy. The operation of coastal trading vessels around Australia has been questioned for some time and recent changes to legislation were opposed due to concerns of poorly trained mariners being put on to save costs ultimately causing accidents like this.

The watchkeeping requirements/standards are detailed and obviously for a reason to prevent this from happening so hopefully the investigation results and outcomes are made public.

Interesting comments by harbourmaster Tony O'Malley at the end ... http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-05-23/m ... ur/7436332

This shared blame sounds like a bum deal if you are hit while anchored with lights on outside of shipping channels.
