Hi, I'm just wondering how much water I would need to get from shady to the mouth when it's not in flood.
I've Neva been to the mouth so any info would be much appreciated
THANKS

From the barrage to the mouth is tidal so just work out the tide times of Darwin then add about 4 hours to that for Shady tides then go from there

Talk to Shane Compain at Coolalinga Tackle World, he puts his big boat in on neaps.

Thanks Mat, I just need to know a rough tide height before I head out for a look.

If you've never done it work on 5.5 m and with a rising tide. Once the tide turns it drops quickly so relying on the tidal height alone may get you in trouble. You should aim to put in or take out before or on the top of the tide, not after. Once you are past the island the water depth should not be an issue. I have heard you can get away with as little as 4m but if you get it wrong it's a long wait.

Done it on a 2.5m low all the way back to ramp. Full noise, full trim. Only hit two rocks. New prop needed
Dont do this :D
From barrage to island is shallow and there is a narrow.channel. go off this at low tide and youll get stuck. As your coming uo to the ialand (7-800m) from ramp stay on the left side of it as the right is shallow. After that as long as you turn right, theres nothing to hit until you get the the mouth. Once again theres a channel. Mark it as most people end up going off a little and it jumps up quick. Not a fun place to have to jump out in knee deep water to push boat back. Inside the mouth it drops off and even on a low low tide you can move around no worries as long as you stay in the creek. Flats extend out for kms and ive hit sand 5kms out. Hope this helps. Hope you get a few

I think that in some areas coming through on the lowest amount of water like 2.5m versus 4m is preferable as the only place there is water is in the channel. The channel at the mouth goes a long way out and I discovered that while most people troll straight out from the mouth the channel appears to turn north westward a few km out on a fair bit further. Scottie is right the flats head out a long way.

Nope. Depending on the size of the boat, I would be looking at 3/4 in at least. And it runs out a lot faster than it comes in so if you want to launch or retrieve on the run out, don't leave it too late

I was out there Friday. It was a 4am high in Darwin and we put in at 730 and it was dropping fast. Give yourself plenty of time. Better to be waiting in your car waiting to put your boat in than stuck in the mud.
