I have just landed my hands on a 10wt fly set up and I really want to get some fish racked up on it. Any tips on where and when to head out?

Hi Peachy,
pretty tough going at the moment for any sort of fishing let alone on fly. Here are a couple of the most popular options for you throughout the year:
Corroboree Billabong - any time after the water levels drop.
Vernon Islands - dry season when the wind is down
Bynoe Harbour - neap to building tides during the dry and build up
Darwin Harbour - same as Bynoe.
Offshore from Dundee - dry season when the wind is light. Great pelagic fishing.
Send us a PM if you want specific details, want to tag along on some trips, need a hand with flies or just want to have a chat about fly fishing up here.
Cheers
Warren

I'm pretty good during the dry, I have caught a lot of good gt's and skinnies land based on spin. I'm after anything to catch at the moment on fly so I can get used to the rod and action etc. mullet or Ox eyes etc would be fine. Even small barra. That's why I was down at Leanyer today in the culverts. Could only get to the first little mouth off the road.

Try Corroboree boat ramp if the road is still open.
Was bucket loads of Tarpon within casting distance ther a couple of weeks ago. Just not sure how the road is after this rain.

Yeah cool. Any recommendations on flies to use? I have a fair few colors an sizes. Been making them up like crazy. It's amazing what you start looking at and thinking 'that would look awesome on a fly'

Seen a bloke trying his luck with a fly rod yesterday in the rain at the lakes in Gunn
not sure if he did any good, but he was very wet

Ha ha ha. Sounds like me during the week learning to cast. I went down to the oval after I mastered the length of my driveway. It's awesome fun.

Shady camp barrage is always good for a fish with the fly
Pink and yellow things have been very successfull me and a few other blokes I know
Fly fishing can be very rewarding for those in the know
Making your own flies and trailing them is what I enjoy most about it,the abillity to fool the fish

Yeah shaggs I see it more as hunting than fishing. Researching what baitfish are around and mimicking them is what I want to do. I already have a few good flies but am always tying them in my spare time.

Take a walk along the leanyer drains at the moment with the rain.
Small green fly will see some tarpon
Chance at a barra if your lucky
Usualy take my 6 weight down there
Best results on the top of the tide

Nothing a hacksaw couldn't solve. Anyway I will hit up Leanyer tomorrow and post any GoPro stuff that's worth it.
