Good morning guys
I just realised yesterday that i have a small leak from the bottom screw of the outboard where it says oil.
What should i do?
Sorry maybe for the stupid question but i don't anything in mechanic.
I have a 30h mercury 2 strokes.

I'd say try getting a new washer to put on it,if oil comes out a bit milky looking change it as well.It is the drain and filler for gear oil.

Cant remember if it is a copper or teflon washer?

If the oil is milky there is water mixed with the oil and the seal has worn and needs to be replaced or damage will occur to the gearbox.

so i did drained the oil and when i took the bottom screw off some water came first and then oil, so i went the boat shop and ask he told me at first refill with new oil and then go for a run. I went fishing yesterday and checked this morning milky oil.
Anyone here know somewhere for free quote or know a good mechanic that won't charge me an harm?

Could be just the seal maybe some line around shaft cut seal.........easy fix.
though if you have hit something with prop maybe bent shaft bigger job but still manageable at home.
but need the right tools
check prop shaft end see if it is bent give it a spin watch shaft.


then go from there.

Do another oil change and put screw back with new washer and Permatex.

I remember hiting something a while ago but didnt really pay attention until last week i find out that it was leaking.
To recap i did change both washer already, refill with new oil. Still leaking but not from the screw anymore but the prop shaft.
As you told me to do fff1964 looking if the shaft is bent i can see anything but i can see some oil leaking from the seal at the end of the shaft, so thats where its leaking from.
Do you think it is repairable by myself? The problem is i dont have much tool and little knowledge.

And blinky what is the permatex you are talking about, i try to look for but there is many types

Good afternoon guys

I can clearly see the leak coming from the oil seal at the prop shaft, the seal that i put a picture few message back.
I was wondering if it's possible to change that seal for someone like me with little mechanic knowledge or i rather go to a real mechanic?

Best off going to a good mechanic, SP Marine is well priced and he knows his stuff. Would highly reccomend

Pelletouse I did it once myself and it's a pr..k of a job. I think from memory I drilled a couple of holes in the seal then screwed in self tappers and wrenched it out with locking pliers (as per some youtube video I saw). Once you start there's no turning back either. Was glad I didn't damage anything and I'd never do it again, straight to the boat mechanic next time......
