Wouldnt it be good if there was a course or something to teach people to service there own??? When I get a boat I am going to find someone to show me as my missus will crack it if I have to fork out 600 a go!

I did my water pump the other week and found some great information on You tube. Never realised how much info was on You tube. It basically walked me through exactly what to do bolt by bolt with video footage. Found it very useful.

I do my Suzi 90 for the price of the filters, oils and spark plugs. I only change the water pump when it looks like it's getting dicky.

Its the same as everything, if you can't do it then then the bloke who can will charrge whatever he wants, that's why competition is a good thing.. keeps prices down.. unfortunately not to much competition in Darwin which equals the lack of competecncy, high prices and lack of customer service.

I did a quick ringaround of all the boat yards just to compare prices, and they must all be in carhoots as a 800 hr service is about $850.to $ 950 from all of em ????????

This is all fine when it comes to older cars or out board motors. the problem is with new ones that you void the warrenty as soon as youu touch the new ones. They have you by the balls unless you you dont mind losing the warrenty. :|

Not quite right mr scooper... It falls under the same legislation as car warranty. That is it must be done by a competent person/company. The manufacturer is the only one able to carry out warranty repairs (unless by prior agreement from the manufacturer) but service work can be carried out by others.

my yamaha is almost 2 years old and i have done all the servicing, i reckon i have saved enough to pay for a new
powerhead if necessary. the bonus is i know that it has been done to factory specs with quality parts and a toque
wrench is used when the factory says one should be used.
