What is your Favourite Barra Lure?

Post by Fisherman-Rob »

Hi all,
How you all going!

Just wondering what is your favourite (goto) Barra Lure you use?
And do you prefer Hard bodied Lures or Soft bodied Lures?

I have to give it more a go (when time permits) .. but I hear the Chrome Slices are a good lure to use?
Also like to buy and try the 'Classic just Under' hard bodied lure, as a few people speaking about this one.

What is your fav lure?

Like most people, you will grab a few lures at the tackle shops and try them all. then when you land one, you will tend to use that lure more often and of course, you will end up calling it your go to lure.
Slices will catch barra but the 'regulars' will do much better

Best advice - Always listen to those who catch a lot of barra.

Reidy's little lucifer's have served me well for general fishing over the years, we used to slay heaps of Baz over at Melville back in the day on the M5 colour in clear water.

I have a list of 11 types of lures that will get a swim depending on location and a list of other factors. If in open water the big B52 as they are tough, swim straight, have 3 hooks and run at the required depth between 2 to 3 meters. The big bomber is a second choice in shallower water.

In deep creeks I like barra classics in the green and gold or things with the pink/orange bottom. both casting and trolling. the bibs can be changed so I carry 10+, 15+ and 20+ depending on depth.

In timber I go weedless rubbers. i like the 5 and 7 inch wedgetails.

On shallow crossings I like DOA' bait busters or 65mm squidgies. usually when casting up stream bringing them back with the current.

In really clean fresh water small squidgies in the black and gold colour

At night a fizzer or popper. Also in really dirty water. On black moon use the black, on full moon use the white.

A tango dancer if the barra are on pop eyes.

In the harbour I use prawn lures most of the time. either the Zman or Zerek. if I cant get a hook up on the zerek due to the fish not hitting properly I will go to the ZMan because it is scented and flavoured. Fish hit them better. Problem is getin one that will swim straight as they tend to twist in the packet.

At the Daly in timber its a polterguist. I Cant catch a fish on one any where else but on the Daly. Weird shitt.

And one other but its a secret........lol

That's a bit tired, gotta use something to temp them.... finding the right one for the conditions is a skill or are you suggesting something else?
