There has been a couple of crocs lurking in that area for a while. I think the dogs that get walked on the beach attract them. It was really only a matter of time as plenty of people swim there. Lucky it wasn't a small kid.

I would have thought that was a fairly low risk activity.

There is always a chance in Darwin. I have seen crocs sitting on the sand bar in front of cullen bay, At mindel beach, cas beach. They all follow the coastt to get into the harbor so the chance of an encounter is always there.

Biggest one I saw in the harbour was a few metres off Cullen sandbar, a stonker - and that was years ago before numbers got up.

We saw a little (1.5m) croc crusing along as we sat at the Sailing Club one afternoon. I went and informed the bloke supervising all the kids sailing. He shrugged me off, while all the kids were in the water bringing in the boats. Wonder if the parents know the level of care factor shown by the people looking after their kids.

That's probably what the kite surfer thought too.

Good incentive for kite surfers to stay airborne ...

There was a real big croc in west arm the other day with a whole turtle in it's mouth. He was pretty she and bugged out when we got close enough to get any video on the phone unfortunately. Croc would have gone 4 + though.

It is the territory after all, people just get to relaxed around the water these days, iv seen plenty of crocs around darwin surroundings and some of them aint that small. The risk will always be there.
