Moderating queue on FFF

Because of legal concerns, I have implemented the dreaded moderator queue.

I'll clear the queue two or three times a day.

This is a nuisance for everyone, including me, so apologies in advance.

Recent court cases suggest it would be best to play it safe.

Does this mean everything gets vetted by a moderator before being posted?

Yes Lats, it means everything will be moderated. I am specifically looking for defamation, but will also moderate out any mean spiritedness towards other forum users or outsiders.

Ken_dog - I'll make up a list of trusted posters who won't be put in the queue. To be a trusted poster you will have to have your name, address and contact phone in the hidden part of your profile, and a bit of a track record on FFF.

Yes Seano, it will slow things a bit, it's a pain, the current Australian laws do not allow the internet to operate efficiently with regards to forums.

I think overall it will improve the quality of the site, it might even save a FFFer from a lawsuit.

This will kill the forum, it's floundering already.

Many forums and blog comments now are queue-moderated, recent legal cases will mean it becomes mainstream, unless the government provides some new framework for online speech.

As for "floundering", that's very good

What will make the forum better is if people post reports, the number of visitors on FFF is still climbing, but the number of fishing reports is dropping, it seems visitors post everything except fishing reports. Thankfully there are a few who do put in an effort.

I don't think waiting a short time for a post to appear will make that much difference once people get used to it, the changeover will irritate I guess.

Im on several forums in oz and none are queue-moderated!
all have active mods who are forum members/
one forum has over 70 000 members. imagine if every one of those posts were moderated.
Kaos Mr Smart, Kaos.

i can see why you feel the need to mod the forum, but every post???

I've got a feeling it's all going to change nomad. The rule book is still being written re online commentary, but some of the things that have happened are concerning.

I'll set up a goodly list of members who can post off the queue. But it will take a day or two ...
