Which fish do you choose to bleed?
Hi
I had a slab of fresh Mahi Mahi given to me recently (not bled) and it was delicious.
It got me thinking, I've always bled most fish but never really knew which species it was modt suitable for.
Any thoughts?

Bleed em all I reckon!!
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!
Especially when you can see them!

Why’s that Sullo? I would’ve thought all fish would benefit from bleeding?Sullo wrote:Everything but coral trout

I ate a big coral trout out of Darwin Harbour and it tasted bland, maybe I shouldn't have bled it?

Most fish that i cook is only dusted with seasoned flour and fried, and as Matt said i find it pretty bland.
Not bled it has a bit more flavor to it.
there is one thing i love about trout and that is the skins.Get the skins and scrape any flesh off,dry it off and cut into 1cm strips with scales on and into the deep fryer, puffs up and comes out just like pork crackling

Try the airbag off a barra one day mate cut it into rings like calamari then shallow fry ... spits oil everywhere but is bl..dy good tucker ... very similar to pork crackling.
Everyone I've showed it to has spun out and kept airbags ever since

I think i throw away a lot of the flavor now days, skinned boneless fillets.
Had bladders plenty of times, lived on a prawn farm with Taiwanese, not much got wasted by them.

Cutting the 2nd & 3rd gill raker with scissors still leaves a flavour and is less messy in the bucket but needs to be done straight away.
