Shady - 24 Feb

Post by Brad the Lad »

we hit shady for a day trip with high anticipation, and nervousness. we were at the pub on Friday and checked BoM only to find a significant storm brewing out there. we just hoped the road wasnt going to turn to custard again.

we decided to leave a little earlier than usual to try and beat the crowd, and to try a new light bar we installed during the week. the road in was great, a few slow spots where the previous bog holes were and a few spots with water over the road. but it was an uneventful drive.

launching was easy and quick, the dual access ramp makes for a speedy launch and picking up the drivers on the side of the ramp is great. no walking 30 meters into the dark water to jump over the front of the boat.

we trolled the mouth most of the day, not a lot happening. few fish here and there, but nothing too exciting. we managed to bang two fish, 83cm and 75cm, and that was it. we didnt see much bait at the mouth and it was a little dirty. i think the rain the night before didnt help.

hepas of boats out there and seemed like a few were staying the night too.

yeah there was some nice colour coming from a few of the creeks, but the water is still quite high so no bait around.

Was there enough water at the ramp
To not have to rely on the tides to launch
And retrieve

yeah no problems. heaps of water coming over and no need for tide to launch or retrieve when we used the ramp.
