G,day ppl just after a few pointers for a newbe at barra fishing. What speeds do you do when trolling?. Also what methods of fishing for barra do people prefer to use from boats, trolling or flicking lures at creek mouths etc.

I'll troll anywhere between 2-14kmh. And I prefer to troll because I'm lazy. You'll probably catch more fish by casting though

i tend to mix it up a little doing both although with or against the tide makes a difference with lure depth and with speed, you can eat and drink whilst trolling bit hard casting flat out, as the pros say get a good sounder and find the fish first

Shane Compain said ultra slow and shallow trolling in Brooke Creek helped his Tackle World Revos team win the 2017 Kakadu Klash.

Slow retrieves often work with barra. If you watch them in a tank they sometimes mozy up to something edible until their nose is almost against it, then they get that lit-up look with the stripe down the front of the face, and then bang.

And other times they just grab things in hurry ...

Ok thanks lads for the very helpful info, I got given a electric watersnake motor and have tried it out and pushes my boat slow walking pace.
Will be visiting one of the tackle stores in Darwin anyways to stock up but always good to hear from ppl who have had success targeting barra.

You can't troll too slow for Barra.

3kn or 900 rpm works 4 me.

We trolled dead slow to super fast in Brooke with fish all over the sounder for zip. Needed a grenade!!

Slow as the outboard will go in gear for me.

Troll a bit quicker at river mouths with deep divers

Try different speeds, sometimes I'll troll as slow as possible, other times I'll sit between 7-8kph. A good indication is to troll as slow as you need to, to get the lures swimming good. There's no point trolling slow if you are going with the current and the lures are just floating out the back, they need to be working to entice the fish.
I tend to get lazy at places like Shady, and get into the habit of trolling for ages, but nothing beats a hook up casting at snags and creek mouths.

Slow as I can trawling but prefer casting but when its hot n no action trawling with the canaopy up and cold beer normally wins!!

I often use the leccy to troll . Sometimes setting it straight ahead and steering with the main motor trimmed out a bit to lessen the drag.

Manton is a classic example but better results than a few mates running the same lures out of a cartopper in both the harbour and coroboree / hardies lagoon trips we did last year proved that it worked ... that's what I have done for ages anyway.

You can't troll too slow in my opinion. The only place I tend to troll faster than idle is at the mouth of Sampan, otherwise 15 minutes later you realise that you have gone backwards 50m not forward.
