Daly New Year

late last night the decision was made to wake at sparrow fart and head to the daly for a change of scenery. As this is my first trip to the daly i didnt know what to expect. we left the big smoke at 5am and didnt get far before we found water!!! Backyard creek was up and the poor old commodore wasnt in any position to be crossing it. we were determined to fish so we put a rock on the road and in 10min the water had retreated a fair bit. after an hour of waiting we took it on, and made it with ease and no cab flooding.

we got to the daly and i kept thinking what the guy at adelaide river servo had said " i hear its flowing a bit". he was dead right and i had never seen the daly before!! i was a bit hesitant at launching the boat so i went with the what the hell attitude and away we went. dodging all the tree's it was impossible to troll or even fight the current with the minn kota so we found some eddies on the bank on the downstream side of some creeks

with boofing all around us and repetitive casting i ended up snagged in a bid of vine, being to lazy to leave the shade of the tree we were tied to i let it float. after a minute or 2 i noticed it was free while i was having a "break". my mate said " if a fish takes that ill be p...ed". well we seen a massive bow wave coming at it and thought no way......then bam and the rod buckled over and it was off. after a few aerial displays it took me back into the vine and it was all over. and here began lazy man fishing.

we figured it would be easier to let the fish find us instead of doing all the work. not long later with the same technique my mate was on, but only shortly being taken into the branches. then about 10min later he was on again, and this one took all the hook. after a bit of a fight and a very poor aerial display we landed a nice 74cm barra.

will definitely be returning to the daly, flooded or not the fish just seem to grow bigger! :drinking1:

Great post mate and a nice silver Barra. Lots of water down there by looks. I see it's still rising too. I'm heading there for work tomorrow could be an interesting drive.
Cheers.
