Howard River Rockbar Runoff Rats

Post by Turtle »

Just posting up a quick report of todays adventures.

Met up with Zulks early morning (too early, but someone's gotta do it). Loaded the quad up and off we went.
Got to the rockbar, water levels looking pretty good.
Started fishing downstream. Twitch twitch of the b52 and I felt a friendly tap. Cast again, paused, WHOOMPFF!! The muffled gunshot went off and I was on. Played with me in the snags for a bit then got him up on the bank, nice fat barra measured 71cm. Awesome!

Got a few rats and 1 more legal sized, Zulks was yet to land a legal sized barra, I may have hinted that to him. Maybe his pet barra were being disobedient this day. Although he did catch a little mangrove jack. Anyway fished a few more sections then Zulks chucks on a bills bug fizzer, a couple of casts and a twitch past a likely barra snag puts him on to a nice 68cm baz. Pressure is off now!

Headed upstream after that and got onto a crapload of rat barra from 20 to 50cm. The bigger fish were there, just didnt want to play ball. We could see em following up our lures (with 3 or 4 rat barra in tow) but they wouldnt take it. Still was awesome fun with the fizzers getting smashed by heaps of rats, very entertaining! At one stage we were just jigging softies and watching the swarms of barra grab em and spit em out over and over again. Great fun!

Ended up staying there till 5.30pm in the hope that the bigger fish were going to feed once the sun backed off a bit but alas, it was not to be. Ended up catching and releasing around 50 fish for the day, dropped a heap too. And got boofed and hit and followed and swirled and rolled on and teased so many times it wasnt funny.

Was a great day out for some good landbased fishing, a few more bigger fish would have been nice but beggars cant be choosers!

Thanks Zulks for the ride and fishing company

Cheers, Luke.

Yer we got most of em at that fork above the mainrockbar..

Track hairy in some spots, with a quad its no dramas but a 4by would be risky. Some good bog holes there! Its starting to dry up pretty good now tho so wont be too long hopefully.

Depends on how big your bank account is haha. Wouldnt mind winning the lotto.. just keep a few mill for a shopping spree and invest the rest in property or something.
*Zzz...Zzz..*
Dear Santa..

I would like -
-a 7m offshore boat
-a 5m river boat
-a 3.5m crab/billabong boat
-a supercharged quad
-a decked out pig rig
-a robinson r44 helicopter for some lazy sunday heli fishing/pig shooting
and of course a nice shed, and maybe open up a tackle shop and then sell fishing tackle for cost price.. that would be nice.
-Hmm and an old Monaro
-and a SS-Z V8 ute.. Always loved those babies.
-and Id buy some property out near Daly river and shady camp.
-and....
*Beep Beep Beep, get up for work ya lazy bastard!!*

Dam..

how far are the rock bars down from the bridge?
