Ive been searching the net for a hire vehicle with a tow bar for a one way trip back darwin from qld. Not much luck so far.
I probally get away with a v6 as it only a 4.5 polycraft.
Has anyone rented a car and towed a boat back.

Was thinking of doing the same, bringing a boat up from QLD, let us know how if you have any success, what they charge etc.

Most companies do the one way thing. I hired a pajero and specified a tow bar while my car was being repaired but that was up here

Re: Rental vehicle with tow bar
Mate I went thru the same thing 2 months ago, and I rang everyone in Brisbane and Darwin (in hope they needed a car brought back), none do the one way thing for a 4x4 I even try to get a ford or Holden. The only one way I could find was a little hairdresser cars.
I was told that most car places have stopped doing the oneway thing because it was costing them to much.
The issue was trying to get a tow vehicle, I even thought of renting and putting one on, but then I wouldn't be covered insurance.
I ended up just driving down there and picking the boat up myself.

Re: Rental vehicle with tow bar
Not much hope Qld to Darwin as none will want a 4wd ute/wagon to end up in Darwin and if they do expect about a $1500 one way fee plus about 14 day min hire charge.
Be cheaper to hire one here and drive it down and back but you'll get stung with excess klms - you could book through Tourism Top End and get unlimited klm rate but pay a higher daily rate.
Used to be in the industry up here for a long time and we'd hardly ever get vehicles with tow bars coming one way from south.
Truck might be cheapest option!!

Try the camper van company's, britz and wicked etc, then just fit a cheap towbar if it needs one. Make something from a wrecker fit.

Sell your old car here, fly down on a cheap airfare, buy another car and boat there and drive them both up.

Just dreading the 7000 k drive and just looking for a way halve the distance.
Might be worth buying a 2005 commodore and driving it back and selling it. But might be to much head f... as I just recently bought a prado

Neighbour had a boat in Darwin he wanted taken to WA, so he paid $1,000 to some backpackers and they towed it for him.
