Todays Trout Trip

They aren't barramundi, but there's something great about the speckled fish ...

Check out this hungry little fella I caught today.
Had a mouth full of worms and still ate my lure!

Back to Bullen Merri for better results this time.
Caught plenty of little fellas and this fat rainbow which pt up a great fight leaping all over the lake.
Masses of minnow on the sounder down deep at 25m with big arches above and below them. Tried the down rigger but no luck.
This one fell to a Halco RMG Scorpian lure.

Yep, it's cold!
Check out the gear I've got on....
Beanie, waterproof jacket, jacket, jumper, long sleve tee, short sleve tee, waders, jeans, thermal pants and two pairs of socks.
Most of you guys wouldn't even own that much winter clothing

Had a trip into the West Barwon Dam this time. Caught three fish and that was all I saw. Long walk but a beautiful place to fish.

I'm just back from the Bullen Merri Classic where a good time was had by all. The fishing was not red hot as expected and one had to work very hard to get his or her name on the score sheet. I started well with two fish in the first one and a half hours of comp time but failed to trouble the score sheet again after that. I landed a long skinny brown trout which was in very pour condition for this lake but was happy as this comp was judged on length. I then hooked and lost a small but legal (37cm for the comp) fish right at the boat side. After I reset the rods and trolled for another 10m the rod doubled over and a very fat rainbow trout took to the sky with my lure swinging from its mouth. I was thinking 'how good is this going to be'?
Three fish in less then two hours! Well, for the next day and a half I never landed another fish over 37cm. There were some big browns brought in on Sunday morning that were caught from the bank on live bait but everybody had a hard time landing a legal fish. At the end of official comp time my two fish were good enough to take out second place. Just a shame I lost that other fish!
